GastroCareUK has been set up to provide a rational alternative to the present difficult situation in healthcare provision in the UK. By developing efficient models of care and working on a philosophy that the care is managed wholly by NHS Consultants, we believe that we can offer improved services to both patients and General Practitioners. These models of care could also be usefully adopted in NHS Secondary Care Centres to reduce the often considerable delay between referral and treatment, thus improving efficiency throughout the health economy in the UK. Furthermore, the model addresses the pressure on GPs to make savings by avoiding referral to specialists and offers an alternative to the Independent Specialist Treatment Centres (ISTCs), which have drawn criticism.
